From salsa to pole dancing, discover a whole new attitude to dancing

So the weekends are here and you're bored stiff in the kitchen trying to think of new dishes to please your partner. Well, forget the typical routine of cooking your way to your man's heart. Instead, disarm him completely by sizzling your way to his arms through the art of exotic dancing.

A workout in more ways than one
Dancing is a good alternative to running as it promotes good cardiovascular workout whilst toning up your legs, butt, hips and thighs. In addition, it is a creative outlet that allows you to express yourself. Exotic dancing on the other hand ups the ante as it combines all those benefits with a whole new attitude - seduction.

"Exotic dancing is an art of seduction. These dance classes are popular because it gives women added poise and femininity. It also allows them to express themselves in a very sensual way through dancing," said People's Association (PA) trainer, Linna Tan, who has been teaching salsa and pole dancing for the past four years.

Empowering women
Indeed, Linna Tan's dance classes have already attracted a steady stream of women ranging from the adventurous university students to the conservative but curious housewives - all with a common goal of toning up their physique whilst spicing it up in the relationship department of course.

"It's about empowerment. Women feel better about themselves after the dance classes," she added.

Take salsa for instance. This sexy dance number, characterised by subtle hip movements combines Latin and Afro-Caribbean dances. Here, the fundamentals of salsa basic footwork coupled with styling and poise are taught to enable you to perform nifty foot works elegantly. The various movements also promote good posture and help firm up your hips and thighs.

Pole dancing on the other hand, is much more seductive but requires more work and uninhibited creativity. Aided with a pole, participants will need to "work the pole" through exotic dance moves when sliding up, down and around the pole. Now, whoever said that the art of seduction whilst sweating it out in good measure was going to be easy?

A form of art
Remember, exotic dancing is not only about the moves. It is also about the attitude and message you want to convey to your partner through artistic choreography.
